WHAT OUR PATIENTS ARE SAYING
“Shelby is an absolute dream. After a year of trying to get pregnant my friend recommended me to her and after meeting with her once, I was pregnant. Not long after having our first child, I got pregnant again and now have two healthy and amazing baby girls (20 months and 4 months old). I have been seeing Shelby for almost two years now. Through pregnancy and postpartum she has been a wonderful resource for fertility, postpartum care, anxiety, allergies, constipation, sleep issues and all kinds of random ailments I have ran into. She's truly become a friend and someone that I confide in. She's recommended supplements, massage therapists and even specific yoga classes to me around the city that she thought would be beneficial to specifically me. She has helped me believe in a holistic approach to medicine.”
I'm Shelby…
Mother of two beautiful children. I have worked on the periphery of birth support my entire career, beginning in 2009 with my first practice, where I worked alongside two Naturopathic midwives, supporting their patients during pregnancy and labor. I gave birth to both of my children naturally, struggled to breastfeed my eldest, and almost had a c-section with my youngest due to breech presentation (but we got her to flip last minute!). As an ABORM fellow, not only have a received advanced studies in fertility promotion, but have spent countless additional hours studying pregnancy related concerns and treatment strategies to guide your baby earthside with as much ease as possible.
Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine have a long history of supporting the health, intelligence, and constitution of children while in utero. In fact, we have acupuncture points specifically named and used for promoting the health of your baby, such as the “Beautiful Baby” point.
Navigating hospital birth is often many women’s first foray into higher level Western medical intervention and can be scary and disempowering. I act as your guide as you navigate the options, recommendations, and restrictions imposed on pregnant women. You will feel a greater sense of autonomy and peace from our work together as you transition from a Maiden into your new role as Mother.

Support for Every Trimester
"You are not just growing a baby; you are growing a mother."
First Trimester: Laying the Foundation
The early weeks are about roots. We focus on blood sugar regulation to combat nausea, prioritizing proteins and healthy fats over simple carbs, anxiety support, miscarriage prevention, and honoring the profound fatigue that comes with building a new life.
Focus: Morning sickness relief, nervous system regulation, stabilizing the fetus for miscarriage prevention and health neural tube formation, and foundational nutrition.
Acupuncture treatment recommendation: every other week
The Second Trimester: Embracing Growth
As you regain your energy, we focus on movement and structural support. Acupuncture is very helpful at this time for relieving low back pain, sciatica, round ligament pain, carpal tunnel, poor sleep and heart burn.
Focus: Pelvic alignment, moderate movement, and deepening the connection with your baby.
Acupuncture treatment recommendation: once a month for maintenance or more frequently for acute concerns
The Third Trimester: Preparing for Birth
In the final weeks, our focus shifts toward opening and softening. We emphasize Acupuncture for Labor Prep. We also look ahead to the "Fourth Trimester," ensuring you have the breastfeeding support and postpartum plan you need to feel supported after the birth.
Focus: Cervical ripening, labor prep, and postpartum preparation.
Acupuncture treatment recommendation: once a month up until the last four weeks of pregnancy, during which time we offer weekly labor prep treatments. If you are an established patient, we can help with gentle labor induction (with the consent of your ObGyn) if you are showing signs of imminent labor or are past your due date.
Postpartum & Beyond
We are here to support you and your family’s wellness throughout the fourth trimester and beyond!
We encourage mama and baby to honor the first 40 days of post-partum by staying home, in bed, nurturing the connection outside of the womb. Please stay home with your baby at this time, only leaving for necessary check ups with your doctors. We can provide you with nourishing traditions and tools, such as Mama Roasting, during this time. Once the 40 days have past, you may return to in person treatment as needed.
To aid in this special bonding time, we suggest establishing care with a lactation consultant before giving birth (breastfeeding can be very challenging but is more likely to be successful with proper support!), communicating your intentions to stay home with family and friends so they know what to expect, and setting up meal trains for loved ones to bring food and supplies to your home, alleviating the need to leave entirely.
Questions about our Pregnancy Services?
-
Unfortunately, no.
We are happy to provide you with a super-bill that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Unfortunately, most insurance carriers in Kentucky do not cover acupuncture. Please check with your insurance before your first appointment to see if you are covered. If you are seeking treatment for a motor vehicle accident and have filed a claim, we can easily bill your insurance for your acupuncture treatment. However, we do not bill any personal health insurance plans in our office.
-
Yes, absolutely.
-
You are still absolutely qualified for this 1:1 holistic care. ANYONE on their fertility journey is welcome, not just people doing it "all-naturally".
